History + charm

Wymondham

Wymondham in Norfolk, England, is a charming market town on the River Tiffey, 12 miles south-west of Norwich on the A11 road to London, with many medieval streets.

The town has a magnificent Norman twin-towered abbey, striking Market Cross, a restored railway station on a branch line between Norwich and Cambridge, and an eclectic mix of local shops and pubs as well as supermarkets. Visit the Wymondham Heritage Museum.

Famously, Wymondham was the starting place of Robert Kett’s 1549 rebellion of peasants and farmers against enclosure of common land.

Useful note for visitors: the town is pronounced Windham, not Why-mond-ham.
