Holt
Historic Holt in Norfolk, England, is a characterful Georgian market town 23 miles north of Norwich. It was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1708. It is close to the coast, and full of antique shops, boutiques, galleries, pubs and places to eat and stay. A highlight is the traditional department store Bakers and Larners.
Holt is a terminus, along with Sheringham, of The Poppy Line, a popular heritage steam railway.
The town is also home to the famous Gresham’s School, whose alumni include Horatio Nelson, poet WH Auden, Lord Reith of the BBC and hovercraft inventor Sir Christopher Cockerell.
Close by are Holt Country Park and Baconsthorpe Castle.
