Our glorious Hall, parkland, Walled Garden and surroundings make for a memorable day out. Discover fabulous collections in Holkham Hall, step into a hive of horticulture in the six acre Walled Garden, and delve into our past and present in the Holkham Stories Experience. Hop on a bike (you can hire them here!), set off on foot, swing from the treetops or dip your oars in Holkham’s mile long lake; there is no better place to lose yourself than in nature’s very own Norfolk playground. Frequently asked questions
- When is Holkham open?
Holkham’s attractions and outdoor areas have varying opening times depending on the season and what you’re visiting. For example:
Holkham Park is open at specific times (e.g. weekends only 10am–4pm until mid-February 2026).
The Hall, Walled Garden and Holkham Stories are generally closed in the early part of the year and reopen in spring (Hall closed until March 2026; Garden and Stories also closed until March 2026).
Ropes Course has limited opening dates (e.g. 14–22 February).
Car parks like Holkham Beach (6am–5pm) and Holkham Village (around 8am–6pm) are open daily.
The Lookout and Wells Beach Café operate seasonally at set hours, such as 10am–3pm in mid-winter.
For the most up-to-date and detailed opening times for specific parts of Holkham Estate, see the official page here: https://www.holkham.co.uk/holkham-opening-times/
- Do I need to pre-book my visit to Holkham’s attractions?
For general admission to Holkham Hall, the Walled Garden and the Holkham Stories Experience, you don’t need to pre-book as there’s no limit on numbers, but you can book online if you prefer. For events or special activities (like guided tours or tractor rides) that have limited spaces, advance booking is recommended.
- Are there discounts available for tickets?
Yes - if you have a valid Art Fund card, you’ll get 25 % off standard admission, and Holkham also offers a 20 % discount for English Heritage members on production of a valid membership.
- Can I bring my dog when I visit Holkham?
Dogs are welcome in Holkham Park, but they should be kept on a lead because of free-roaming deer. Please note that dogs aren’t allowed in Holkham Lake itself and only assistance dogs are permitted inside Holkham Hall.
- Why is Holkham Hall only open on certain days?
Holkham Hall is a lived-in family home, and on days it’s closed to the public it may be used for private events, school visits or weddings.
- How big is Holkham Estate?
The estate covers just over 25,000 acres of parkland, gardens, farmland and coastal landscape in northwest Norfolk.
