About Sandringham House & Gardens
Sandringham House – with its Jacobean-style architecture – sits at the heart of the Sandringham Estate. As a beautiful country retreat for The Royal Family, it has been open to the public since 1977. Eight ground-floor rooms, including some never before seen by the public, contain many wonderful personal treasures collected by Members of The Royal Family through the centuries. Sandringham House and Gardens are open from 28th March – 9th October (except for closures from 19th–28th July and 20th–23rd August). Multimedia guides are available to hire during a visit or there are also knowledgeable guides who can answer questions in rooms of the House. As well as being steeped in history, the House today is an integral element of the modern, working Estate. This has a firm focus on stewardship, preserving the land and buildings for future generations. While five generations of Monarchs in the UK have made a lasting impact on the planting within the Gardens, the layout remains very much as it was back in 1863 when King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra purchased the Estate. Sandringham is a very personal garden, with the additions by each Monarch offering visitors an insight into their passion and enjoyment of this much-loved, inspirational place, nestled in Norfolk.
