About Fungi Foray with Tony Leech
Join us for an immersive autumn walk through the Mannington estate, discovering the fascinating and often overlooked world of fungi beneath our feet.
Led by Dr Tony Leech, the Norfolk Recorder of Fungi and an award-winning conservationist, this guided foray offers a rare opportunity to learn from one of the region’s most respected fungi experts. Tony has spent decades recording and studying fungi across Norfolk and beyond, and is widely regarded as a true authority in his field. Known for his generosity of knowledge and engaging, down-to-earth style, he brings deep scientific understanding to life in a way that is accessible, fascinating and rooted in careful observation.
Guided across the estate by conservationist Jerry Kinsley, the walk will last around two hours, taking in woodland and meadow areas as we explore seasonal fungi, learn how to recognise different species, and understand the vital role fungi play in healthy ecosystems. Along the way, Tony will share identification techniques, ecological insight and stories drawn from a lifetime of recording and conservation work.
The afternoon will conclude with tea and cake, offering time to reflect, ask questions and share discoveries.
No prior knowledge is needed – just curiosity and a willingness to look a little closer at the natural world.
