Kingdom
Shot entirely on location in Norfolk, and mainly based in Swaffham, Kingdom featured a range of locations from Holkham to Wells-next-the-Sea and Hunstanton. The story revolves around Peter Kingdom, a lawyer who believes that human issues are more important than the law.
Following the huge success of British romantic drama Atonement, which filmed on location in Norfolk, Keira Knightley returned to the county to star as Georgina Cavendish, the Duchess of Devonshire. Holkham Hall, home of the Earls of Leicester and Norfolk Wildlife Trust's Cley Marshes both featured in the film.
Director of The Duchess, Saul Dibb, who studied Film and English at the University of East Anglia, chose the elegant 18th Century Holkham Hall to film a number of scenes for this contemporary tale of fame, notoriety and search for love. Holkham Hall is one of the finest examples of Palladian architecture in the country and offers the filmmaker a wide range of sumptuous location possibilities. Set in the heart of a beautiful, sweeping deer park on the windswept north Norfolk coast, the staterooms have in the past doubled for Buckingham Palace interiors for the BBC’s TV drama, The Lost Prince.
